Happiness upon sad faces
Flames lick hot, then cold replaces
Beauty you were not born to me
Although ugly I do not see
Green replaced by a sea of brown
The city’s better than this little town
Carnivals all full of light
Our children killed by a sugary blight
Life and death are always kissing
The black cat in the cradles hissing
Hello fear my closest friend
I always speak with you near the end
Love is short, and love is hard
It tears you open like a rusty shard
Flowers in bloom, cut down for sale
Brought in the diesel to replace the rail
In our tomb I lift your veil
Married now, so long, fare well
Throwing stones to kill the sinners
The more judgmental are the winners
Fear in our hearts it has been creeping
Your eyes are sad, your eyes they’re weeping
Take my hand we’ll leave this place
Please take my hand, we’ll find our grace
For in this small town
We must stay no more
Or we will find our souls dying
On New Bedlam’s cold floor
Perry Jerome is an actual resident of New Bedlam… at least, one of the towns that New Bedlam is based on. A singer, songwriter and poet, Perry plans venture to MontrĂ©al to continue to pursue poetry more seriously. You can visit Perry at WEbook.
